About the project
Education is undergoing a digital transformation, but most AI tools remain fragmented and limited in scope. Our client envisioned BetterLearn, an all-in-one AI education platform designed to cater to both students and educators. Unlike existing solutions, BetterLearn integrates AI-powered tutoring, homework assistance, grading automation, and content creation tools, all within a single, seamless platform.
Challenge
Education is evolving, but technology hasn’t fully caught up. While AI-powered tools existed, they were niche-based, so students had to use separate apps for tutoring, study aids, and homework assistance, while educators lacked integrated AI solutions for lesson planning and grading. Our client wanted to create an all-in-one AI education platform catering to both students and educators, streamlining learning and teaching processes.
Approach
We developed BetterLearn in just 3 months, creating two seamless dashboards; one for students and another for educators. The Student Portal features an AI-powered Homework Helper, 41 AI tools, and AI Tutors for various subjects. The Educator Portal includes evaluating AI for grading, a Teaching Assistant, 100+ AI tools, and more.
Create a platform that follows all compliances which includes FERPA, COPPA, and state privacy laws to reduce any misuse of AI. The goal was simple, make learning smarter and teaching easier with AI-driven automation.
Discovery phase
In 2023, we started our journey by diving into the world of journaling and productivity. Our research helped us discover three big challenges that users often face:
Market Research
$112 billion by 2034
is the projected market size of AI in education, growing at a 36.02% CAGR.
12% by 2034
growth will be seen in AI’s share in EdTech as it will increase from 1.8% to 12%.
$4.2 billion+
contribution from the US alone driven by AI-powered tutoring, automated grading, and personalized learning experiences.
The Gap
Despite the rise of AI-driven education tools, most solutions were niche-based. There was no single platform that combined AI tutors, homework help, study tools, and educator support into one. Existing tools catered either to students or educators, but never both in a seamless AI-driven ecosystem.
Students’ Struggles
Homework Help Gap:
68% of students find online explanations too generic.
Tutor Accessibility:
74% of students cannot afford one-on-one tutoring.
Study Tools Fragmentation:
Students juggle 5+ different apps for learning support.
Educators’ Challenges
Grading Overload:
Teachers spend 12+ hours per week grading assignments.
Lesson Planning Complexity:
63% of educators struggle with lesson planning.
Lack of AI-powered Teaching Assistants:
No unified AI solution existed for content creation, evaluation, and personalized learning.
Competitor analysis
We reviewed major AI-powered education platforms, but none provided an all-in-one solution. Tools like Khan Academy AI, Quizlet AI, and ChatGPT for education had strong individual features but lacked comprehensive integration.

Opportunity
Competitors focused on isolated features, but no platform combined AI tutors, study tools, and automated grading. They lack holistic AI integration, educator-focused tools like custom chatbots and behavior plans, and flexible pricing. BetterLearn had the opportunity to revolutionize AI-driven education by bridging the gap between students and educators all within a single AI-powered ecosystem.

Design research phase
Visual Research
We conducted user research studies with educators and students to pinpoint critical pain points within the current education system. Our research highlighted a disconnect between existing solutions and the real needs of educators and students. Educators struggled with manual tasks, diverse learner engagement, and limited personalized feedback, while students faced comprehension challenges and a lack of individualized support.
BetterLearn recognized the potential of AI to bridge this gap, designing a platform that empowers educators, enhances student learning, and transforms education through intelligent automation and personalized experiences.
Explaining image-user journey map of educators
Existing platforms have partially addressed these issues, particularly in lesson planning, assessment, student support, and administrative tasks. Specifically, we identified recurring challenges across key areas, as highlighted in the user journey map:
- Lesson Planning: Educators struggle with time-intensive manual lesson creation, adapting content for diverse learners, and aligning with curriculum standards. Existing solutions offer limited automation or differentiation capabilities.
- Classroom Delivery: Challenges include managing classroom behavior, engaging diverse learners, and a lack of real-time feedback mechanisms. Static teaching materials and limited tools for dynamic instruction hinder effective classroom delivery.
- Assessments: Manual creation and grading of assessments are time-consuming and prone to error. Providing individualized feedback is difficult, and automated assessment tools with personalized insights are lacking.
- Student Support: Educators struggle to provide adequate individualized student support due to limited time and resources, and language barriers in parent communication pose additional challenges.
- Admin Tasks: Repetitive administrative tasks consume significant educator time, pulling them away from core teaching responsibilities. Automation of these tasks is minimal in existing solutions.
By addressing these core challenges, we believe this platform will empower educators to be more effective and create a more enriching learning environment for students. With this research, we started with an effective design vision that helps educators and students to navigate easily through the platform get effective AI tools handy.
